The 36th Annual U.S. Marine Corp Marathon (MCM) used SitScape software for safety and security monitoring, and collaboration (Nov 3, 2011)
How do you “run” a successful Marathon? The Arlington County Police had the enormous task of providing overall safety and security to this year’s 36th annual Marine Corp Marathon (MCM) .

The event was held in Arlington VA. - part of the greater Washington DC metro area on Sunday Oct 31st. 2011. MCM draws over 40,000 runners and another 100,000 spectators. Like many such events, it’s a target for terrorism – from Vehicle Born Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED) to shooting into large crowds to driving over people in order to push a cause.Coordinating the multiple policing agencies and jurisdictions spread out in various locations – such as Arlington Emergency Management, Arlington Police, Park Police, DC Police, Arlington Fire Dept, Arlington Dept of Transportation, FBI, Marine Corp Event Security, Pentagon Police and other event coordinators can be a daunting task. Collaborating with those diverse teams and their many different computing devices can be a challenge.

Enter SitScape – A Web-based Collaborative Situational Awareness (SA) platform that can create UDOP pages or Dashboard Views on the fly in a Web browser and shared with other stakeholders instantly, leading to rapid access to the information necessary at any given point, which is critical for MCM.

SitScape worked closely with the Arlington Police Swat team to aggregate Common Operating Pictures (COP) with displays including course maps, cameras from DCDOT, event instructional documents, sniper positions and more. It was a big success!

Since with SitScape’s platform, ANY informational UDOP can be assembled from ANY source and shared with ANY device on the fly, the Unified Command tent located at the Air Force Memorial experienced the power of the SitScape’s software to provide quick and easy access to the information they needed.

The race was 26.2 miles; the security was 100%, it was a great event!

Sitscape is excited to announce our participation in the upcoming PowerGen conference (www.powergen.com), being held in Las Vegas on December 13 - 15. The annual event attracts the senior leadership from the energy and utilities sector to discuss the challenges facing power companies today and a venue for showcasing the innovative solutions available. Sitscape will be presenting our unique solution for improving cyber and physical security for our nation's energy companies, power generation and transmission operators. Using Sitscape, power companies have the ability to instantly assemble a user-defined operating picture (UDOP) with many sources and applications organized into a contextual dashboard. Armed with a dynamic, live view of multiple systems and legacy application objects, energy companies are empowered to collaborate and communicate with live application data instantly on-the-fly by compiling useful information and virtualizing applications in a UDOP or COP inside of a browser with no software installation. Users are able to share the dynamic live applications, legacy apps, objects and documents with peers, managers, other sites, regulators and corporate governance to collaborate, reduce risk and improve decision accuracy. All of this without expensive integration and hard-coded dashboards - creating useful business value and situational awareness. Established in July 2006, all Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) cross domain efforts now fall under the jurisdiction of the Unified Cross Domain Management Office (UCDMO) .
UCDMO's mission is to provide centralized coordination and oversight of all cross domain initiatives across the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community.

Keeping up with the rapidly changing information sharing environment that cyber aware customers demand is a tremendous challenge for everyone in the DoD and IC. It is imperative we work together in seeking common, collaborative practices to the many challenges this task requires. During this conference attendees are presented with information on how the cross domain community is addressing this challenge. Through the four tracks, attendees have opportunities to interact on: moving the communities to the Enterprise, training the Cyber Aware Workforce, going beyond the baseline towards a capabilities portfolio, and how the Cross Domain Implementation Framework (CDIF) will enable reciprocity.
